One Small Shift

A fortnightly practical helper for parents by Dan & Laura
No long reads, just one practical shift you can try immediately, from two former educators who've been on both sides of the desk. Free, and easy to unsubscribe.

One shift at a time

Each issue holds a single, practical idea. Small enough to try tonight, real enough to see and feel a change over time.

Warm, never preachy

Written the way we'd talk to a friend at the kitchen table. No jargon, no judgement, no adding to the pressure you already feel.

Every second week

Fortnightly, so it never clutters your inbox. Just a gentle nudge, right when it helps to be reminded you're doing better than you think.

When every question becomes a checkpoint

How to ask about school without turning the kitchen into an interrogation room.

Term 3 is grinding on, the pressure is rising, and you have noticed the exchanges getting shorter.

You ask how school was, that practice exam went or whether the assignment is done, and you get a word back.. if that.

So, you ask again, a little more pointedly, and the shoulders go up, and what was meant to be a chat has become a standoff.

The one small shift this week
Swap one "have you done it?" for one "what's it actually like right now?" Ask it once, then stop talking and listen.
